The Department of Defence and the SA National Defence Force are once again partnering with the Rand Show to bring hours of interactive entertainment to show visitors, from 3-12 April 2015.

In addition to the SANDF's highly anticipated capability displays in the main arena over the Easter weekend, the four arms of the SANDF are coming together to put on a massive joint exhibition covering over 10 000 sqm.

The SANDF has been bringing out the big guns at the Rand Show since 2011. As the biggest civilian event in the country, the Rand Show provides the SANDF with an ideal platform to communicate its role and functions to civil society.

"The Rand Show offers the South African National Defence Force an opportunity to interact directly with the South African public," says Brigadier General Xolani Mabanga. "It is a platform that offers space to inform, educate and communicate to citizens about the work of the Defence Force, and gives members of the public the opportunity to interact with the equipment the SANDF has at its disposal."

The Rand Show will this year also provide a platform for the SANDF to introduce the public to the role of science and technology in producing military equipment, and to showcase the Defence Force's important peace-time role of rescuing communities both here and across our borders from fire and flood.

Participating this year under the theme of "A professional and capable Defence Force for the people of South Africa", the SANDF has a superb line-up of displays and static exhibitions for this year's Rand Show visitor.

"The opening ceremony on Friday, 3 April 2015, will once again be a spectacular event," promises Brigadier General Mabanga. "It will include a capability demonstration with parachutists-weather permitting-and combat simulations with controlled explosions, helicopters and combat elements such as the dogs, horses and motorcycles of the Specialised Infantry Units of the SA Army. There will also be an anti-rhino-poaching simulation, and performances by various military bands."

The SANDF's capability display runs over four days, from 3-6 April 2015, giving Rand Show visitors ample opportunity to enjoy these and other military highlights in the main arena.

Visitors can then move to the 10 000 sqm of outdoor and indoor exhibits where they can climb on and into an impressive array of military vehicles, and meet the uber-professional and friendly men and women in uniform.

Exhibits cover all four arms of the SANDF: the SA Army, SA Navy, SA Air Force, and SA Military Health Service. Together, they're bringing everything from a Rooivalk combat helicopter, Olifant MK2 tank and a Ratel ZT3, to a field hospital, hydrographic survey boat, and a three-metre dive tank complete with navy divers. Those interested in adding their skills to the SANDF pool can also meet recruitment officers from all four Defence Force arms.

The SANDF's exhibits can be viewed for the duration of the Rand Show 2015 on Terrace 1, in the downstairs section of the MAN Hall, and in Halls 10, 10A and 10B.

Please consult the Rand Show website for the full list of SANDF equipment on display, as well as the programme of SANDF events in the Rand Show's main arena.
